Your School Library

In Larkin Community College there is always Room For Reading!

Our students have access to high quality library run by a qualified librarian.
It is open before school, at lunchtime and after school and students regularly have classes in the library setting.
Since it opened as part of the JCSP Demonstration Library Project in 2001 staff and students in our school have read and borrowed 7000 books.

All our students are expected to read on a regular basis and borrowing books is part of daily life in our school.

The library in Larkin Community College plays host to shared reading, paired reading, story telling, read-a-long books and tapes, games, quizzes, research, treasure hunts, book reviewing, homework, career advice, and quiet reading classes. This space has quickly become the heart of the school where our students choose to come in their free time. It is a dynamic space in an equally dynamic school.
What your library can do for you!

-- You can be independent! That means you can find out things on your own without parents or teachers.
-- If you have a problem you might find answers in the library.
-- Libraries in third level colleges are very big. Sometimes they can be scary places to go into. If you learn how to use a library in school you will feel more confident when you go to other libraries.
-- You can read brilliant books that can make you laugh or make you cry.
-- You can become brainier . . . And therefore funnier . . .. And therefore more attractive!!!!
-- You can use a library for lots of different activities.
-- You can develop your skills and then choose what YOU want to do when you leave school.
-- The librarian can get you books on anything you are interested in like skateboarding or fishing or fashion.
-- You can learn how to be a chef, how to pass your driving test or even how to play the guitar
